Emotions
How we feel describes the condition of our soul...We are created with emotions, because we are created in the image of God. But some of us are not very comfortable with our own emotion, much less other people’s expression of emotion. And I have even heard some christians say that emotions are evil. But God created us to feel. Have you ever heard of a physical condition called Neuropathy? It is when you have numbness in your hands and feet. And it can be very dangerous to the patient especially if you step on a nail and can’t feel it. The same is true for emotions. Emotions are to describe the condition of your soul. And they are sometimes used to stir you to action.
The danger comes in when we use our emotions to drive the rest of us. When we make decisions based on how we feel.
We were made in the image of God who feels, therefore we were created to feel. So often we are told to suppress our emotions which leads to unhealthy consequences. Or we are told that every feeling we have should be followed. Neither of those extremes bring healing to the soul.
We have toxic emotions that we need to detox from. Jealousy, hatred, rage are things that are fatal to our soul. We hold onto these things and most times we don't even realize that we carry them. One of the first things to do to detox your soul is to forgive. Unforgiveness allows us to hold onto toxic emotions. Forgiveness allows us to let go of the pain. When we forgive these toxic emotions are released from our soul. And when they are released, we are free to pursue love and joy, the emotions that feed our soul.
